Even though your Leupold scope is a very robust instrument and very hard to damage, one still needs to do some basic maintenance on their riflescope.
You need to keep your lens clean, dust free and protected from the elements and your riflescope clean. The oil in your fingertip is hard to remove, so never touch the glass with your bare fingertip.
Replace the lens cap for your scope whenever it is not in use. This will keep it dry and help reduce the dust that will collect on the lens.
Don't store your rifle with the scope still attached. This may cause the scope to become misaligned.
Over time moisture can creep inside your rifle scope, especially when exposed to wet weather conditions. This moisture can create rust and make rubber pieces dry and brittle. So, keep a clean terry cloth available to keep help keep your scope as dry as possible.
When mounting hardware on your rifle scope be sure and use the proper sized screwdriver. Using the wrong size can cause screws to become stripped or damaged over time. Don't substitute a knife blade for a properly sized screwdriver.
